Are you parenting/teaching an HSC?
Dr. Elaine Aron wrote books called The Highly Sensitive Child (HSC) and The Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). In these books, she shares her belief that 15-20% of the population has a more sensitive nervous system which makes them more aware of subtleties in their environment (I believe this percentage is even higher and increasing). It can also lead to an overloaded nervous system and the mental and physical health problems that manifest as a result of this overload.
When I read this book, it was a huge light bulb moment for me. Finally, I understood what was wrong with me! There wasn’t really anything “wrong” at all….I am simply wired a bit differently than many others. As this new knowledge settled in, I started to recognize this trait in others. Most of my family have it (including my son and stepson), almost all of my clients, and many of the children I worked with as a teacher. As the years went on from my new understanding, I became increasingly more and more alarmed by the number of children and young adults I was coming across who were being sent to counseling and dosed with anti-anxiety or anti-depression medication. While these options are very valid and can be enormously helpful, they aren’t really addressing the true issue for these young people. What they really need is someone to understand (and explain to them) about how their nervous system works, so they can make the adjustments needed to avoid becoming overloaded.
While I was still teaching, I passed on Dr. Aron’s book to several parents and teachers. It helped them understand what was happening with their child who took off some of the pressure and sometimes that was enough to heal the problem. For others, additional help was needed in a way I wasn’t able to provide as a classroom teacher. These kids needed to have their energy system set up differently to help them stay more centered in their own space. Many of them were also having intuitive experiences and they needed protections set in place so that their experiences were filtered through the Divine. They needed tools and techniques to keep their system in balance, even when surrounded by a lot of different people’s energy and emotions. They needed to learn how to grow the gifts of being sensitive instead of suffering through the pitfalls. Most importantly, they needed adults in their life to help them understand there is nothing wrong with them and to teach them how to take good care of themselves as sensitive beings.
Now that I am working full-time as an intuitive life coach, I am ready to do more for these very special young people and the adults who are caring for them. I know first-hand how terrible it is to have “fight or flight” reactions kick in when you are trapped in a classroom and unable to move. I know exactly what it feels like to be so distracted by everything swirling around you that you can’t concentrate. I also know what it is like to feel so frustrated that you lose your temper and explode. Thankfully, I also learned how to take care of myself, so I don’t need to get to that state anymore. I am passionate about helping other highly sensitive people be freed from the debilitating aspects of this trait when left undetected into living with the amazing gifts it brings. My intention is to work with the adults in their lives to teach them, so they can support and share with their young person in the way that they can understand. Below are some options to work with me if you are interested in learning what I have to share. The Sensitive Soul Program/Classes can be used to help your child or for Highly Sensitive adults (or anyone who wants to balance their chakra system).
