New Article and Intuitive Message!

WordPress had a little glitch this morning and none of my posts made it out by email.  If you missed them, the links and an excerpt are below!

From Letting Go of “Doing”

As the energies shift and we all evolve into more clear expressions of our true nature, we are called to let go of old approaches. Using the caterpillar/butterfly metaphor, sometimes it is difficult to switch from the focus of getting things done (for example, finishing off the leaves on the branch you are on) to focusing fully on creating and appreciating the beauty around us.  Have you ever found yourself feeling pulled in a thousand directions at the same time?  Sometimes the drive to “do” can throw us into a state of confusion and exhaustion.   We lose our focus on looking for the beautiful and get caught in accomplishing tasks.  As I’ve been experiencing this lately myself, I asked for some guidance.  Here is what came through…

Letting Go of Doing

I write a weekly intuitive message for my Soul Friends’ Community.  I decided to share this week’s message with everyone, so check out the link below to read what came through!

Intuitive Message for this week

And a little bonus…

A quote from Answered Prayers:  Love Letters from the Divine by Julia Cameron

“Allow me to come close to you.  Let me into your life.  Allow me to enter your heart.  I come with respect.  I bring the gifts of gentleness and wisdom.  I am for you wise counsel.  Share with me your hurried heart.  Slow down and speak with me.  I bring you joy.”

Wishing you a joyous evening!

Taking Ownership: Discover Your True Essence (And Release the Rest)

If you were a house, what would you be like?  According to some dream experts, dreaming about a house often means that we are dreaming about ourselves.  The condition of the house indicates the state of our own inner world.  I’ve had a series of recurring dreams about a house.  Each time, the house feels so familiar.  I absolutely love it, but up until recently, I wasn’t yet the owner of it.  It was also always filled with other people and their belongings.  After a wonderful elemental reflexology session, it finally occurred to me that it was time to ask my Spiritual Support Team to clear it out.  Once I did that, it was time to finally claim ownership.

The word “claim” is very important with this process.  We need to be willing to claim ourselves, all of ourselves.  I spent a lot of time over the last several years digging through all the forgotten or hidden aspects of my psyche and coming to terms with what I found there.  In my Soul Friends’ book, I talk about the Soul Friends’ preferred method of dealing with skeletons in the closet…bring them out to dance!  I’ve found that in truth, most of the parts of ourselves we are afraid to admit to or face our usually much more positive than we realize.  Shadows on the walls are bigger then when you look at them directly.   We also need to stop claiming that which is not us.  I find that many people are claiming “facts” about their personality which are really just emotional responses to experience they have had.

We talk of shielding and boundaries frequently when I am working with clients.  It feels to me as if shielding is actually better termed as being unwavering in our own essence.  When we know who we are and feel the truth of our Divine Self, our essence cannot be altered by others energies or emotions.  We are free to invite the world to visit, knowing that we won’t be adjusting what they find when they come.  All the Universe asks of us is to be truest expression of ourselves.

So where are you in this process?  Have you emptied out your closets and discovered your true self?  Are you ready to see how all of that self fit together?

For March’s Empowerment Call, we’ll be asking our Spiritual Support Team to help us see the house of ourselves and to get a feel for what is going on inside of us.  By understanding ourselves better, we will be better able to stay centered in our truth.  We will claim that which is us, and release that which is not!  To join me, check out the call details below:

An Intuitive Message for the day!

I asked for an image to help you make the most of your day.  Here’s what came through:

The image I’m seeing is of an orange still on the tree.  It looks very plump and round.  There is still some green on the top where it attached to the branch.  I’m hearing that the orange represents the sweet goodness and warm sunshine of life.  It’s almost ready to be picked!  I’m hearing that you are free to start imagining just how awesome it is going to taste when it finishes ripening!

Have a sunshine-filled day!

Intuitive Gifts and Self-Care

I recently read an article about a local boy who is going to be on A&E TV on a program called Psychic Kids.  According to the article, the boy has been seeing ghosts his whole life.   I was alarmed to read that he suffers from constant visitations, physical contact, and nightmares as a result of this gift.  I’ve worked with many psychic and highly sensitive clients who have experienced illness or emotional distress because of their extra awareness.  We all have choice about what we experience in our interactions both in our day to day encounters and during our intuitive experiences. We all have a Divine right to be safe and comfortable in our own systems.  If you are intuitively aware, whether through your ability to feel others emotions, see Spirits, or know things before they happen, you can and absolutely should make guidelines around how you experience your interactions with the spirit realm.

Here are a few suggestions to help you…

1.  Create a window of time to communicate:  Whether you are communicating with those who have not crossed (ghosts) or with spiritual guides, angels, and archangels, you need to set a time frame to communicate.  I say a prayer asking to be grounded and connected to the highest Divine source and that all communication I receive is coming from this highest source.  Ask the lines of communication to be open for a set length of time (30 minutes, until you fall asleep, for the next hour, etc).

2. Write out your intention that ALL communications with the Spirit Realm be filtered through the Highest Divine Source (you can specify Jesus, Archangel Michael, Buddha or whatever high spiritual source you believe in).  Ask this to be sealed in the Universe and to be in place at all times and in all circumstances.  This is crucial.  When I first start doing readings, I had a man come through who had died of a heart attack.  I broke out in a sweat, my heart started pounding out of my chest, and I felt like I was about to have a heart attack myself.  That is what can happen when you don’t filter your interactions.  Always have the interactions be filtered through the highest Divine source so that your system remains safe and separate from those you are interacting with.

3. Decide what you are willing to experience.  Again, you have a choice here.  Do you want to know about unfortunate things that may happen when there is nothing that can be done to prevent them?  Are you willing to see ghosts?  How strongly do you want to experience others emotions or physical symptoms?  Write out clear intentions for all aspects of communicating.

4. Remember that if something makes you uncomfortable, ask the Angels to shield you from it and to help you restore balance and to establish better boundaries.

5. Ask that as you learn, you are given the protection you need.  It may be hard to think of everything when you are just getting started. This request will help protect you in the meantime.

Directly experiencing Divine love and support is an amazing gift!  These simple steps can insure that your experience is empowering, rather than debilitating.  If you find you need some additional help living with and growing your gifts, visit my website to learn more about how I can support you:  http://www.EmpoweringLightworkers.com.

Blessings to you!

Divinely Inspired Message-A Safe Haven

I’ve asked for a Divinely inspired message for you today (on whatever day you happen to read this!) and this is what I was shown.

DIVINELY GUIDED VISION

I am sitting on a white rock.  Around me is dark water.  The water is so dark I can’t see what is within it.  I feel the smoothness of the rock. It is a moonstone.  I can feel a gentle energy coming from the rock and it is soothing me.  I look into the distance and all I see is the dark water.  It stretches for miles and miles.  I am alone on the moonstone, but I don’t feel lonely.  I feel safe and peaceful.

INTERPRETATION

From Nature-Speak: Signs, Omens & Messages in Nature by Ted Andrews:

Black:  “Black is found commonly throughout Nature in both the plant and animal kingdoms.  It is often associated with mysticism, magic and new birth.  It is a color of quiet strength and protection.  It can indicate a need for secretiveness and sacrifice.  Black is also associated with the feminine energies, the creative and the intuitive.  When found with other colors, it often indicates a grounding or even a more mundane energy or issue at play.”

White:  “Found in all of Nature’s kingdoms, white reflects the energies of truth.  It is soothing to our spirit and even indicates the presences of spirits about us in some area of our life.  When white appears predominately, we may have messages coming to us soon from the spirit world.  White is also a reminder to follow our creative inspirations.  If it is capturing our attention in Nature, we may need to look at how we are or are not expressing our creativity.  Now would be a good time to follow any creative pursuits.  If we have doubts about issues or activities or even people in our life, white is the color that reminds us to be patient.  The doubts will soon be alleviated.  We will get our answers.”

From The Crystal Bible:  A Definitive Guide to Crystals by Judy Hall
Moonstone:   “Moonstone is the stone of new beginnings.  As its name suggests, it is strongly connected to moon and to the intuition.  Like the moon, the stone is reflective and reminds us that, as the moon waxes and wanes, so everything is part of a cycle of change.  Its most powerful effect is that of calming the emotions.  Moonstone makes conscious the unconscious and promotes intuition and empathy.  It encourages lucid dreaming, especially at the time of the full moon.”

FROM SPIRIT

I hear Spirit saying the following in regards to the image I was shown.  “Rest.  This is a time of change and in the midst of change there our periods of great chaos when it feels like all is lost.  Remember that even in the midst of dark there is always light.  Trust that what is happening in your life right now is for your highest good.  Believe that love always triumphs over darkness because it does.  Let yourself be supported.”  To me the images suggest protection and a space apart from the stresses of life.  The moonstone feels very feminine and nurturing.  It is gentle and subtle, not harsh.  The dark waters around me are filled with mystery and they also feel like protection.  I feel safe and buffered.  The image of Noah and the Ark comes to mind.  As things are transformed in our world, we are safe and protected.  When the water recedes, new life will be born.

COACHING TIP FROM NANCY

What are you doing to nurture and care for yourself?  With the economy issues, the swine flu, and other challenges, I know many people are feeling very overwhelmed right now.  I find what works best for me is to think how I can support myself physically first.  Energetically and physically balancing your system will make it easier for you to handle stressful circumstances.  Regular exercise, massage, energy work, meditation, or any other activity that restores your physical well-being is a great place to start.  After that, you’ll be better able to consider options to reduce stress emotionally and mentally.  The members of my empowerment center are exceptional and have lots of ways to support you.  The website is www.SanctuaryAtCrossroads.com.  I am also happy to help as well.  Call or email me for an Empowerment Reading that combines intuitive healing, spiritual guidance, and practical coaching to support and empower you.  You can reach me at (330) 416-6184 or by email Nancy@EmpoweringLightworkers.com.  The most important thing is to take care of you!  Make that your top priority, especially during times of stress.

Tips For When You Feel Powerless

Everyone seems to have an area where they feel powerless in their life. It may be a relationship, a health challenge, or a job. Sometimes it is just life circumstances that are beyond our control. The question is what do you do to find your power?

I asked for a vision on this topic the other day. I saw a beach with strong waves smashing on the shore. The waves would crash hard on the sand and then pull back. Within the wave I saw a small fragment of the shell. I watched as it was pounded by the waves and dragged back and forth. I saw an image of the shell as it had been when it was whole. Then, it had provided a home for a creature and was perfect for what was needed. Now, it was no longer functional and the beating of the waves was slowly pulverizing it into sand.

The message was that the situations where we feel powerless bring forth opportunities for transformation. Often, some well worn pattern in our personality or experience is continuing to be followed even though it has outgrown its usefulness. The waves represent the challenges which push us to change so that we can create new approaches that fit our life now.

I thought about how it would feel to be that shell. I can imagine the power of the water forcing me down into the sand and pulling me out into the ocean, only to toss me back up onto the same shore. There is pain in the experience, both in the forcefulness of the challenge and in the need to let an aspect of one transform. For me, there is also the message about how to allow this transformation to occur the most easily. If the shell resists the pull of the ocean and fights against the change that is occurring, the pain increases. If it accepts there is wisdom in the cycle that is occurring and allows it to pull and push it into a new form, there is at least peace within.

Putting this into the terms of one’s life, this means to me that we accept that the challenging things we face in life exist, at least in part, to help us to grow. Part of that growth is in learning to trust. For me, that trust means looking to God and to myself, instead of those around me, to bring me what I need. It means trusting that even though change is hard, it always brings new joys and new opportunities.

Below are some simple steps to help you the next time you feel powerless.

1. Come back to yourself. What do you need right now to relieve the stress you are experiencing? Would it help to take a walk? Talk to a friend? Exercise? Have a cup of tea? Take care of yourself as you would a child. How can you comfort and nurture yourself?

2. Turn it over. Once you feel calmer, it is time to turn the problem over to a higher power. I believe and have experienced that the Divine does and always will provide for all my needs. Stop and send a quick prayer for assistance with the situation that is challenging you. We usually know what we’d like to see happen, but sometimes it helps to just leave it open. Ask to have your needs met on all levels. Ask to love your life, your relationships, and your work. Trust that it will be so.

3. Turn your attention to something else. I know it is hard to let go of something that is bothering us. We want the situation to be resolved and we want it to be resolved quickly. Sometimes though there is nothing for us to do except to take care of ourselves, and find something else to focus on. Look for something you enjoy doing or something that will really grab your interest. Do you have a hobby you enjoy? What about a work project that is absorbing or even a good book? Pick something and turn your focus to it, even if you have to keep dragging your attention back there when your mind wanders back to the problem.

4. Have faith. Sometimes the transformations we need to go through happen quickly and other times they take a little longer. Keep yourself in the moment. Pray for guidance and grace. It may take some time, but the shell will eventually become sand and the challenging time will be over. Find as much joy as you can in the other areas of your life during the process.

As always, if you need some support through the process, give me a call!

Blessings to you and yours,

Nancy

The Power of Love: Make 2009 a Great Year!

Every year, I complete an exercise that Life Coach and author, Cheryl Richardson, sends out.  It asks you a series of questions in April and then asks you to reflect on them at the end of the year.  One of the questions is “What advice would you give yourself?

This year, when I started to answer that question I found myself getting very squirmy.  All the “words of wisdom” from the things I’ve learned just felt like something else to remember.  That’s when I realized that my advice to myself is really very simple.

Just love.

Now, we’ve all heard this suggestion a million times, but what exactly does it mean?  For me, it comes back to the most important thing I’ve learned in my life.  It is that my happiness and my sense of peace come from loving…not from being loved.

This sounds like a very trite saying, but I encourage you to try the activity below and then see how you feel.  Ask yourself when you are done the following questions:  Is your body more relaxed?  Do you feel more peaceful?  Are you smiling? Does your heart feel lighter?

Here is what I wrote in my journal in response to Cheryl’s question,

“What advice would I give myself this year?”

Breathe.  Relax. Let go.  Breathe. Relax. Let go.  Love yourself.  Love God.  Love your husband.  Love your sons.  Love your family and friends.  Love everyone.  Love the Earth.  Love trees.  Love the mud between your toes.  Love the birds singing in the morning.  Love the candlelight at night.  Love the first star at dusk.  Love your soulfriends.  Love your body.  Love your inner child.  Love sunshine on your face.  Love the warmth of a cozy blanket.  Love the sound of Dylan’s laugh.  Love the feel of Jacob’s head on your shoulder.  Love the feel of a rock in your hand.  Love the smooth feel of jade.  Love the softness of your pillow.  Love the wonderful scent of mint tea.  Love the lavendar in the garden.  Love God’s whispers in your mind.  Love Spirit hugs.  Love your beautiful Soul sisters.  Love simplicity.  Love joyous music.  Love laughter.   Love swimming in a quiet lake.  Love the first wildflower in the spring.  Love watching the sun come up.  Love the ebb and the flow.  Love your innocence.  Love your wisdom.  Love books and stories and stories!  Love your fears.  Love the creative rush of a new idea.  Love the smell of the pages of a book.  Love watching the branches stir in the wind.  Love the feel of the Earth beneath you.  Love the snowflakes melting on your cheeks.  Love starlit nights.  Love songs.  Love simple pleasures.  Love being loved.  Love yourself!

Now it is your turn!  What do you love?

Feel free to write your response in the comment box below.   Did you notice a difference in how you felt after your list was complete?  Share your thoughts!  We’d love to hear from you!

Save a copy of your list to refer to throughout the year.  I’m going to keep my list posted by my computer to remind me to start each day with loving thoughts.  Where could you keep your list to remind you of all that you love?

Blessings to you and yours!  Best wishes for a joyous, peaceful and loving 2009!

How Roots Become Branches: Tips for Exploring the Gifts of Who You Have Been

Below is an article I had published in the Journey Magazine this year.  Included is an activity to help you integrate who you have been into who you are today.  I hope you find it helpful!  :) Nancy

How Roots Become Branches

by Nancy Nicholas

“Only another breath will I breathe in this still air, only another loving look cast backward, and then I shall stand among you, a seafarer among seafarers.  And you, vast sea, sleepless mother, who alone are peace and freedom to the river and the stream, only another winding will this stream make, only another murmur in this glade, and then shall I come to you, a boundless drop to a boundless ocean.”

Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

I was shown a vision as I began writing this article.  It was of a huge oak tree with thick, deep roots reaching into the lakes that surrounded it.  Each of these lakes represented a period of my life and contained a piece of myself.  Thinking of this vision, I realize that coming to terms with the past and discovering how to connect the many lakes of my life is not only about having access to the beautiful memories and the love for those times and people, but also for finding the thread that connects the lakes together…connects me to all the people I have been on my life path.  It is the continuity that I found myself seeking, rather than the peaks and valleys that always seem to stand out most strongly.

So what is this continuity in my own life?  What are the things I’ve loved in every period?  What are the common experiences that repeat throughout the very different times of my life?

I realized that as much as the peaks and valleys seem to stand out in my mind’s eye, they are actually only a small portion of my life.  They are the land portages between the lakes, not the lakes themselves.  In truth, the majority of my life has been filled with everyday things, a quiet predictability, moments of simplicity and steadiness.  Ordinary days filled with both clouds and sunshine make up the lakes of my life.  Like a thread that runs through a tapestry to help it stay together, those simple, ordinary things are the threads weaving the pattern of my life and bringing it to a place of wholeness, instead of swatches of cloth forever separated and severed.  Who would have guessed it was something so inconsequential that is truly the most important aspect of the life I have lived?

And just as the “portages” of my experiences stand out most clearly, so do those aspects of myself that were born during those often difficult transitions.  The challenges of each experience called forth a different aspect of me, a part often exiled once the crisis had passed.  As I look at the experiences, I take time to honor and embrace those parts of me that developed to handle that which was seemed beyond my ability to cope.  I recognize that the pain of the portage became associated with these aspects of my psyche and as a result, they were pushed away.

Yet, now as I embrace this understanding of my roots, I realize that each of these parts of me is essential to the whole.  Just as the foundation is rooted in simplicity, so too are my branches rooted in the “trunk” of the core aspects that are me.  Letting go of the pain of transition, and embracing the joy of ordinary moments and gentle personal truths, I see how my tree is grown full and bountiful.

For those of you who are also looking to integrate your past into your present and future and discover the fullness of the tree of your life, I encourage you to try the activity below.

Exploring Your Roots

  1. Use a timeline to chart your life from birth to now.  Divide the timeline into sections for each of the periods of your life.  Look for places where you moved or had some major change in life (either internally or externally) as you make the divisions.
  2. Draw a series of circles, one for each of the periods of your life, and label it by your age during each section.  Leave space between to draw in the “portages” where you traveled from one period to the next. In each circle, write the key facts from that period in your life.  Where did you live?  What was significant about that time period for you?  Can you describe yourself in a word or two during those years?
  3. Draw lines in between the lakes and write a short sentence describing the move from one lake to the next.  What stands out in your mind as you think of the change from one period to the other?  What part of your psyche helped you get through this transition? How did you feel about the change?
  4. Below each circle, make a list of what experiences stand out in your memory.  Remember to include, simple moments as well as the bigger events.  What were the bulk of your days during that period like?
  5. Take a look at your lakes.  Let yourself imagine that you are living in each of those periods again.  Write a letter from your younger self to who you are now, telling about what you love in yourself and in your world during that time.  Focus only on the positive for this activity.  Let this be a narrative about all that was good for you during that period of your life.
  6. Read the letters you wrote and imagine yourself embracing your younger self and all the joyous moments from those periods.  Let the love fill your roots and flow up to your branches.  Recognize what an amazing human being you are and have always been.

I hope this article inspired you to revisit your roots and to pull the joy and love from the lakes of your life into the whole of you.  May the tree of your life be filled with deep, strong roots and abundant branches!

Body Wisdom

Body Wisdom

Have you ever had one of those times when you are considering a course of action and find yourself experiencing a lot of physical distress? For years, I simply saw this as nervousness on my part and proceeded to override my fears and forge ahead anyway. Usually, I’d end up sick or in a situation that was not good for me.

Finally, after a couple years of polarity therapy, I learned a very vital lesson. My body is wise. In fact, it is the wisest part of me. What I’d taken for weakness was actually a sophisticated warning system trying to let me know that the course of action I was about to pursue was not highest and best for me.

This month, I encourage you to try listening to your body. When you notice that it is under stress (heart flutters, tension, stomach ache, tense), instead of pushing forward, stop instead.

Here is a simple procedure to help you start listening and understanding your body’s messages:

1. Return your body to a place of peace. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 6 seconds, and hold for 4 seconds. Continue this patterned breathing for three rounds while repeating, “I am safe and all is well.”

2. Imagine the action you are considering. See yourself doing it. How does your body feel? If it is tense or you feel a sudden pain, this is not the highest and best course for you to follow.

3. Continue to imagine different options until you body reacts with peace. Try to think creatively and come up with gentler ways to go forward with your plans. Can you do it on a smaller scale? Is there a way to get the help of others first?

4. Follow through and thank your body for helping you pick the best choice for you. Now that you have gotten the message about what you need, follow through! Don’t be tempted to override this knowledge. You’ll find that the more you do this, the easier it will be for you to select only that which is in your best interest.
